Starting out in PJ in 1998, Gerakbudaya has from the start been about more than just publishing and selling books. It has been about developing a critical and engaged intellectual culture, and of promoting free expression both within the arts and academia. Most importantly it has been about cultivating independent spaces, outside of universities and chain book stores, with which new ideas could be discovered, discussed and debated.
In keeping with this a network of Gerakbudaya affiliate stores has been growing, in Penang and Yogyakarta, Indonesia, which bring these spaces to new audiences.
Gerakbudaya therefore invites book loving entrepreneurs to startup, own and run Gerakbudaya bookstores in select locations: Johor Bahru, Kuching, Kota Kinabalu, Kota Bharu, and if you are up to the challenge, London.
As a Gerakbudaya affiliate bookstore you will be provided with the resources and network to realize your dream.
