Fan
Yew Teng (1942-2010) was former Acting Secretary-General of the Democratic Action
Party, Member of Parliament for Kampar and Menglembu and Selangor State
Assemblyman. He was also Editor of 'The Rocket', the official organ the DAP.
Prior to his involvement in party politics, Fan had been actively engaged in
the National Union of Teachers, holding several posts and serving as Editor of
NUT's magazine, 'The Educator'. He was the author of numerous books including
If We Love This Country (1988) and The Umno Drama (1986). Throughout his life,
he continued to write prolifically on political and social issues and campaign
for human rights in Malaysia and beyond. This book gathers together around 70
tributes to mark the first anniversary of Fan's passing, as well as what would
have been his 70th year. Written by eminent political figures, intellectuals,
members of the activist community, family and friends, these tributes attest to
the life of a man whose uncompromising principles, vibrant spirit and steadfast
struggle for justice remain alive in the memory of the Malaysian people
