“Three things cannot long remain hidden: the sun, the moon and the truth.” What really happened at the Bersih 2.0 peaceful rally in Kuala Lumpur on the 9th of July, 2011? The writers were patriotic enough to brave severe warnings and a heavy clampdown by a government that did not seem to want to hear them – Malaysians who answered the call of duty to our future generations, and risked their comfort and well being so that they could tell their children and grandchildren: when it mattered the most, we stood up and were counted. In their stories, we see Malaysians transcend politics to unite for a cause that is the right of every single Malaysian, regardless of their ideology or background – a right to clean and fair elections. As these stories tell, something beutiful was born on that 9th of July. That spirit of unity, patriotism, and concern for our fellow Malaysians continues to burn in the hearts of those who wrote these stories, those who read them, and those whom we share them with.
